Mom & baby bear Waterton

During an early morning photography session on a brisk May day, I encountered a mother bear and her cub on a sloped hillside in Waterton Lakes National Park. The mother was seated, taking a break, while the curious cub ventured out to explore the surroundings. In this particular photo, the mother wears that distant expression parents adopt when pretending not to be overly concerned about their offspring’s escapades.

Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the frame, the cub had just sampled something from the ground and clearly did not find it palatable. The image captures the moment with its tongue sticking out, conveying the displeasure of an unpleasant taste.
